Barger starts 2021 one-for-one, wins Carolina USCS go

GASTONIA, N.C. — Justin Barger opened his 2021 sprint car season in fine fashion Friday night, April 9 with a 25-lap “Thunder in the Carolinas” USCS feature win at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C.

Barger dominated the race in his No. 5 Moss Ford Racing Engines-powered Triple X 360 sprint car. After winning his 8-lap heat race, the New York transplant — now residing in Cornelius, N.C. — started on the pole for the feature, jumped out to the early lead and led every lap on his way to the wire-to-wire victory. He’d race under the checkered flag 1.026 seconds in front of Eric Riggins Jr. for the popular win.

“What a great way to kick off the racing season with a win so close to home with family and friends attending,” Barger commented after his win. “The car was fast out of the trailer and that’s a testament to all the hard work that goes in during the week and throughout the offseason. Thanks to all of our partners that play a big role in making this effort possible. We were ready to try and go two-for-two Saturday night but unfortunately Mother Nature won that battle.”

Barger is referencing the scheduled Saturday night USCS show at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C., which was cancelled due to rain.

Justin Barger Racing will announce the team’s next races soon.
